SpicyChat review: choose the feature before the plan

I would start with free text chat. Pay for a specific missing control: Get A Taste adds manual memory editing; True Supporter adds automatic semantic memory and eligible conversation images; I’m All In adds text-to-speech.

The cheapest subscription does not increase the published context limit. Voice playback is not proof of live calls, and a private character is not a guarantee of confidential processing.

What this review can establish

I rechecked official documentation for this revision. The two guest observations below come from our September 24, 2026 desktop-Chrome evidence record. On November 5, the supplied link opened the public app shell with Home, Chats, Chatbot and Help navigation; no message was sent. No new paid chat, audio, image, cancellation or deletion test is claimed.

Choose by the job you need SpicyChat to do

SpicyChat suits character-led text roleplay. I would choose the character and writing style first, then check whether a paid feature solves a problem in that same conversation.

  • Try charactersStay free while judging the writing

Compare two character cards using the same harmless opening. A paid memory feature cannot repair a persona you dislike.

  • Correct story factsCheck manual vs automatic memory

Manual editing starts at Get A Taste. Automatic semantic memories start at True Supporter in the official plan table.

  • Hear repliesCheck the TTS gate before upgrading

The documented feature reads existing messages aloud on I’m All In. That is a different purchase from a two-way voice call.

  • Illustrate your own characterCheck Legacy Mode and private access

Newer support says current image models need no character training. Legacy training has separate tier rules; confirm private-character entitlement in your account.

Two guest checks show where the upgrade decision gets tricky

Recorded September 24, 2026 · Desktop Chrome · Guest session

Observed · limited guest access

A text reply worked without an account

Our recorded check opened a public fictional-character chat from the guest landing page and received a reply to a harmless room question. Sign In remained visible; no email, card or account was supplied.

The interface warned that guest generation was limited and chats were not saved. Yet the transcript remained visible in another tab in the same browser.

Useful finding: that browser could try text chat. It did not establish today’s quota, other-region access, anonymity or server-side retention.

Observed · upgrade gate only

The speaker icon opened a paywall instead of playing audio

Clicking the speaker beneath a short reply opened an upgrade panel naming I’m All In. The control was visible, but guest playback was unavailable in that check.

I would never treat the icon as an included feature. We did not buy the plan, hear its voice or measure playback delay.

Age verification is a separate condition. The official instructions say requirements vary by region; returning from the verification provider matters for registering the result. The older guest check does not override that flow.

Current prices: pay for the missing feature, not the tier name

These USD prices are published in SpicyChat’s September 2026 pricing FAQ, effective September 8 and rechecked October 14. Annual figures are the full year’s price. Confirm currency, tax and the billed total at checkout.

Published plans and the practical reason to consider each
PlanMonthly USDAnnual USDDecision-relevant difference
Free$0—Try the writing; published context up to 4,096 tokens.
Get A Taste$5.95$60.00Manual Memory Manager; still up to 4,096 context tokens.
True Supporter$19.95$199.95Up to 8,192 context tokens, Semantic Memory 2.0 and eligible conversation images.
I’m All In$29.95$299.95TTS and broader image/model access; verify actual context for the selected model.

Get A Taste is not a larger-context upgrade. Free and that plan share the same published context ceiling. Its manual controls can still be useful if correcting story facts is your main problem.

The official feature table says there are no premium free trials. Free text access does not let you evaluate paid audio, automatic memory or conversation images.

Why I do not promise a fixed top-tier context size

The tokens guide lists up to 32,768 for I’m All In, depending on the model. The support plan table still lists 16,384.

The official pages disagree. Check the current model and account entitlement before paying specifically for 32K context; a tier ceiling is not a guarantee for every model.

Existing subscriber? Changing billing cycle can lose your old price

The pricing FAQ says an eligible pre-September 8 recurring subscription keeps its price while active and unchanged. Switching tiers or monthly/annual billing moves it to current pricing.

Compare the actual renewal totals before switching to annual. An advertised discount against today’s monthly price may be a worse deal than your retained older price.

Fix the right memory layer before buying more context

Short replies, forgotten history and a wrong saved fact need different fixes. Reply length has a separate ceiling; a larger context window does not automatically make each answer longer.

The context guide says character definitions, your persona, history and generation instructions share the same space. I would trim repeated character lore before assuming every continuity problem requires an upgrade.

Deleting the source message does not remove its semantic memory

Semantic Memory 2.0 summarizes details separately. Its guide says those memories remain after you edit or delete the original messages, until you update them manually.

Correct both layers. Otherwise a removed story fact can keep returning even though the visible transcript looks fixed.

  • Open the conversation’s three-dot menu and select Memory Manager.
  • Find the stale entry and edit or delete it, then check the source messages separately.
  • Add short stable facts rather than an entire scene recap; the documented entry limit is 250 characters.
  • Pin only facts that must persist. The guide says pinned entries are included in each reply’s prompt.

Control paths and pin behavior: official Memory Manager guide. Access requires an eligible subscription and a conversation with a few messages. Deleting a memory does not remove messages that already mention it.

Our older guest check recalled a fictional umbrella’s color after one unrelated question. That supports short in-session context only. It does not prove paid semantic memory or recall across days.

Check narration and Legacy Mode before paying for media

Test narration with a new reply, not an old one

The TTS guide puts playback under a message. In the conversation’s three-dot voice menu, Include Narration adds action text to spoken dialogue.

The narration switch affects newly generated messages only. Change it, generate a harmless new line and then listen. Replaying an old reply is the wrong test of that setting.

The September 29 voice-support article says voice settings apply across conversations. Recheck the voice after switching characters; do not assume the setting belongs to only one persona.

I would compare TTS with Nomi only after choosing whether I need read-aloud or a live conversation. Our voice interaction guide separates those workflows.

Image button not working? Check Legacy Mode before upgrading

The September 29 image-support article lists conversation images and Qwen options for True Supporter and above. The control path is chat’s three-dot menu → Generation Settings → Image Settings.

Legacy Mode support says current models need no character training. Legacy Mode does: True Supporter can train public characters; I’m All In can also train private ones.

If an image workflow refuses a character, check whether Legacy Mode is on. Unless you need that older workflow, follow the support instructions to turn it off and select an available current model.

Private-character access still needs an entitlement check

The separate image guide gives a broader restriction for created characters. The September 21 plan table also puts private-character images on I’m All In.

The newer Legacy article describes current models as working with any character. These pages do not fully reconcile private-character tier access. Confirm the actual account entitlement or ask support before upgrading for that alone.

Put the outfit in the last message, not twenty turns earlier

The September 29 image-mismatch guide says the image prompt uses the latest message and avatar, rather than the whole conversation. An earlier outfit or setting can therefore disappear.

Repeat only the visual detail needed for the next image. The guide also points to a pencil control on an existing image for editing its prompt. I have not generated paid images or verified matching quality.

Run one fair trial before judging the model

This is a proposed workflow, not a new test result. Keep the character, selected model and opening fixed when comparing settings.

Scenario 1: compare character writing without spending

Try two clearly adult fictional characters with the same brief: a quiet café scene, distinct speaking style and no narration of your actions. Compare whether each follows those constraints.

Record the greeting and visible character definition when available. A different card can change the result as much as a model change.

Scenario 2: see whether correcting a fact actually sticks

In an eligible paid account, add a harmless test fact, then deliberately correct it. Check both the transcript and Memory Manager before asking an indirect question later.

Reopen the same chat the next day, but treat successful recall as continuity in that saved conversation. It does not isolate which memory mechanism supplied the answer.

Save these four details so the comparison means something
  • Character, model and subscription tier.
  • The opening, correction and follow-up question.
  • Which transcript lines and memory entries you changed.
  • Whether the result improved, stayed wrong or was not tested.

The documented model path is three-dot menu → Generation Settings → Inference Model → Change Model. Check the models available to your tier in the official model guide and the live selector.

For model control, compare Chub AI; for managing a local frontend and separate backend, compare SillyTavern. Neither comparison is a claim that the alternative writes better.

Private visibility, deletion and cancellation are separate controls

SpicyChat’s visibility guide distinguishes public, unlisted and private characters. An unlisted character remains accessible to anyone with the link; private characters can still be seen by moderators.

The chat guide says character creators cannot see your messages. That addresses the creator’s access; it does not certify who at the service can process them.

Character visibility does not establish chat confidentiality or retention. Keep sensitive real details out of a trial; read our privacy checklist before treating any removal control as proof of erasure.

Find the billing exit before the first payment

  • Website subscription: profile → Manage Subscription. The cancellation guide says access continues through the paid period; check for confirmation.
  • Account deletion: profile settings → Advanced → Remove Account. The deletion guide says this removes account content and automatically cancels recurring website subscriptions. Server-side erasure was not audited.
  • Third-party billing: Google Play, SubscribeStar and Boosty subscriptions must be cancelled through that purchase platform. The same guide says they can keep billing after account deletion.
  • Refund route: the refund policy offers a conditional 24-hour window for direct card purchases with minimal use. One-time methods are non-refundable; third-party terms differ.

I would choose a monthly trial of the needed feature before committing to a year. That recommendation is about reducing commitment, not a promise that a refund will be granted.

Next step: prove the writing fits, then price one missing control

Start with the free character trial above. If the writing suits you, name the blocker: manual correction, automatic memory, supported images or read-aloud. Check that exact entitlement before choosing a plan.

If larger context is the deciding factor, resolve the current model limit with the live selector or support first. If you already have a retained older price, check the renewal total before changing billing.
