Choose SoulGen’s route by the change you need: edit an area, widen the canvas or create a new portrait from a reference. Those jobs use different starting points. I would settle the still image before spending credits on animation, rather than expect a video model to repair a poor source image.
For readers seeking explicit content, the current Terms, section 5.2, prohibit uploading, sharing or transmitting pornographic, indecent or lewd content through the service. Their revision is shown as [03/2026]. I would not shortlist SoulGen for a workflow that depends on permission to submit that material; this is a policy finding, not a test of its filters.
Pick the image task before opening the editor
- Change one area
- Classic Edit describes selecting areas inside an existing image. Use this route when the intended change belongs to a particular region.
- Add room around it
- Image Extend describes resizing the canvas and filling the gaps. It addresses framing and extra background.
- Create from a face reference
- Human Modeling asks for an image with a clear face, alongside style, aspect ratio and image count. It creates a different kind of starting point from editing an existing region.
These are the published purposes of the routes. We did not upload a file, test a mask, compare a face or generate an expanded canvas.
Smart Edit starts with the source photo
The homepage’s Edit your image link points to Smart Edit. In our anonymous desktop browser check on November 5, 2026, we opened that route without supplying an image.
If you want to inspect the area-selection workflow, go to Classic Edit rather than assuming every editor link opens the same controls. Recently used and My Creations are also listed as source-image routes in the public editing pages, but we did not test account history or saved-file retrieval.
Classic Edit: check what changes outside the selection
The Classic Edit page says the image is segmented after upload and areas can be selected or deselected by clicking. That is an interface explanation; we did not test how accurately it separates an object from its surroundings.
For a proposed, unperformed test, use one rights-cleared image of a fully clothed fictional adult and ask for a single jacket-color change. Inspect the face, hands and background as well as the jacket. A correct color alone would not show that the rest of the image stayed intact.
Keep the original file and compare the same crop at the same zoom. If the result changes more than you intended, record the selected region, prompt and model before retrying. Changing all three at once makes the cause harder to identify.
Image Extend changes the framing, not the clip length
The image extender is described as adding canvas around an image and filling missing areas. It is separate from the Video Extend entry on the video generator.
For example, turning a portrait into a wider composition is a framing task. My suggested check is to compare the original center, the join around its edges and the newly generated background. No extended output or unchanged-pixel guarantee was verified here.
Do not infer video capability from the image Extend label. Likewise, a wider still does not establish that a later clip will keep the face, hands or background stable throughout motion.
A face reference is not a measured identity lock
The AI Character page lists Real, DreamTwin and Anime character choices. Human Modeling instead starts by asking for a clear-face reference. Pick the route that fits whether you are describing a new character or working from an existing reference.
A reference option does not establish repeatable identity across angles, outfits or later video frames. I would compare those separately before building a sequence around one character. Use a source you have permission to submit; no person’s photograph was uploaded for this review.
Editing credits depend on the route and model
The current credit schedule, checked November 5, lists 3 credits per image for Classic Edit and 3 for Human Modeling. That equal price does not mean they perform the same job.
Smart Edit lists 3 credits with SoulGen2.0, 4 with SoulOmni and 6 with SoulOmni Pro; the latter two list higher 2K rates of 6 and 8. The AI Character row separately lists 1 credit without Looks Like and 2 with it.
Treat those as published rates, not measured deductions or a promise that every attempt produces a usable image. We did not verify a current cash checkout, trial allowance, failed-generation billing or a final charge. Check the selected model, resolution and image count before submitting.
Next step: finish one still before planning the sequence
Choose a single non-sensitive task: a local edit, extra canvas or a reference-based portrait. Inspect the appropriate entry screen and the current charge before committing to a generation. If your deliverable is a clip, first establish that the still is usable, then test motion separately.
For a workflow where you manage the image pipeline yourself, read the existing ComfyUI review. For another reference-control comparison, see Mage, including its own content restrictions. Neither link is a same-input quality comparison or a claim that either tool permits your intended content.
